grumpy

Grumpy is bad temper on a small scale. It has almost nothing to do with anger: an angry person wants something changed, while a grumpy person only wants to be left alone until the coffee works. You see it before you hear it. The eyebrow comes down, the mouth goes flat, and everything gets answered in one word. That is why it is the friendliest of the bad-mood words. We use it about people we like, and about children, and about old men in stories, and nobody minds being called grumpy the way they would mind being called rude. It is a mood, not a character, and everybody knows it will pass.

Grumpy es mal humor en pequeño. Poco tiene que ver con la ira: el que está enfadado quiere cambiar algo; el que está grumpy solo quiere que lo dejen en paz hasta que haga efecto el café. Se ve antes de oírse: baja la ceja, la boca se pone recta, todo se contesta con una palabra. Por eso es la más amable de estas palabras: nadie se ofende por ser grumpy.

Você vê antes de ouvir: a sobrancelha desce, a boca fica reta, tudo é respondido com uma palavra só. Por isso é a mais simpática dessas palavras — ninguém se ofende.

Grumpy, c'est la mauvaise humeur en petit. Rien à voir avec la colère : le fâché veut changer quelque chose, le grumpy veut seulement qu'on lui fiche la paix jusqu'à ce que le café agisse. Ça se voit avant de s'entendre : le sourcil descend, la bouche s'aplatit, tout est répondu en un mot. C'est le plus aimable de ces mots — personne ne s'en vexe.

Grumpy adalah suasana hati buruk dalam ukuran kecil. Hampir tak ada hubungannya dengan marah: orang yang marah ingin sesuatu diubah; orang yang grumpy hanya ingin dibiarkan sampai kopinya bekerja. grumpy は、小さな規模の不機嫌です。怒りとはほとんど関係ありません。怒っている人は何かを変えたいのですが、grumpy な人はコーヒーが効くまで放っておいてほしいだけです。聞く前に見えます——眉が下がり、口が真一文字になり、返事はぜんぶ一語。だから不機嫌系の語のなかで一番かわいげがあります。性格ではなく気分で、じきに直ると誰もが知っています。
