singularity

A singularity is a point where the normal rules stop working. Physicists use it for the centre of a black hole, where the equations break down completely. The famous use is about technology, and it is the one you will meet: the singularity is a predicted moment when machines become able to improve themselves — each version building a better next version — faster than people can follow, so that nothing beyond it can be predicted from here. It is a forecast, not a fact, and no date is agreed on. Notice what it does not claim: not that machines turn evil, only that change could outrun our ability to steer it. It takes the: the singularity.

El uso famoso es tecnológico: el momento previsto en que las máquinas se mejoren a sí mismas más rápido de lo que podamos seguir. Es un pronóstico, no un hecho. No dice que se vuelvan malvadas, sino que el cambio se nos escape.

L'usage célèbre est technologique : le moment prévu où les machines pourront s'améliorer elles-mêmes plus vite que nous ne suivons, rendant la suite imprévisible. C'est une prévision, pas un fait. Elle ne dit pas que les machines deviennent mauvaises, mais que le changement nous échappe.

Singularity とは、ふつうの法則が通用しなくなる点です。物理学ではブラックホールの中心を指し、そこでは方程式が破綻します。よく耳にするのは技術の用法でしょう。機械が自分自身を改良できるようになり、それが人間の追える速さを超えると予測される瞬間です。事実ではなく予測で、時期の合意もありません。機械が邪悪になるとは言っていません。変化が手に負えなくなる、という話です。
