Languor is heaviness in the body, and most of the time it is pleasant. Picture a hot afternoon: the fan turns, a glass sweats on the table, nobody stands up, and the whole hour passes at half speed. That weight is languor — the drawing melts him straight through the hammock. It is not laziness, which is about effort avoided, and not exhaustion, which is about effort already spent. Languor is what heat, or a long lunch, or a slow river does to you — the hurry simply drains out. The adjective is languid: a languid wave of the hand, a languid afternoon. The word can turn ill, too. A languor that will not lift is the old name for the weakness left by a long illness.

Languor (langueur) est une lourdeur du corps, le plus souvent agréable : après-midi de chaleur, le ventilateur tourne, le verre transpire, personne ne se lève, l'heure passe au ralenti. Ce n'est ni la paresse (effort évité) ni l'épuisement (effort déjà dépensé) : c'est ce que fait la chaleur, ou un long déjeuner. L'adjectif est languid.

Languor adalah rasa berat di tubuh, dan biasanya menyenangkan: sore yang panas, kipas berputar, gelas berembun, tak ada yang berdiri, dan satu jam berlalu setengah kecepatan. Languor は体の重さで、たいていは心地よいものです。暑い午後、扇風機が回り、グラスが汗をかき、誰も立ち上がらず、一時間が半分の速さで過ぎていく。怠惰（労力を避ける）でも疲労（使い切った労力）でもありません。暑さや長い昼食が人にもたらすもので、急ぐ気持ちがただ抜けていく。形容詞は languid。
