Mercurial is named after Mercury, and both of them — the god and the metal — are about not holding still. The god was the messenger, the fastest of them, never in one place for long. The metal is the only one that is liquid at room temperature: touch it and it runs, and it will not keep a shape. A mercurial person is that. The mood turns fast, the plan turns with it, and the turn does not need a reason you can see. The drawing has a man grinning with a flame in his open hand — comfortable, delighted, one second away from something else. This is not the same as bad-tempered. It is unpredictable, which is thrilling right up until you need to depend on it.

Mercurial berasal dari Merkurius: dewa pembawa pesan yang paling cepat, sekaligus logam yang tetap cair pada suhu ruang — disentuh, ia lari dan tak mau berbentuk. Orang seperti itu berganti suasana hati secepat itu, tanpa sebab yang terlihat. Bukan pemarah, melainkan sulit ditebak.
