Solitude is being alone when you chose it. English has two words for one situation and the difference between them is entirely about consent: loneliness is the state you did not ask for, solitude is the one you did. The drawing keeps them apart on purpose — a person sits cross-legged with a book inside a glass dome, and he is smiling. The dome is not a cage; he is the one who lowered it. So the word carries no complaint. Writers go looking for solitude. Nobody goes looking for loneliness, and calling it solitude does not make it that.
