flamboyant

Flamboyant comes from the French flamboyer, to flame, and was first used for a kind of window — late Gothic stonework cut into shapes that look like fire. Keep the flame and you have the word. Something flamboyant is shaped to be seen from across the room. The drawing is a man in an orange feather coat the size of a sofa, carrying a fan he does not need, and enjoying himself completely. Now notice what the word does not say. It is not tasteless and it is not false. It says only that the choice was made for an audience — which can be a delight, and is never an accident.

Flamboyant est le mot français, et le gothique flamboyant en est l'origine : la pierre découpée en forme de flammes. L'anglais l'a gardé pour les gens. Sur le dessin, un manteau de plumes orange grand comme un canapé. Le mot ne dit pas de mauvais goût, il dit fait pour être vu.

Flamboyant berasal dari bahasa Prancis flamboyer, menyala, dan mula-mula dipakai untuk jendela Gotik yang diukir seperti api. Simpan api itu: sesuatu yang dibuat agar terlihat dari seberang ruangan. Di gambar, mantel bulu oranye sebesar sofa. Bukan berarti norak — berarti untuk dilihat.

flamboyant はフランス語の flamboyer（燃える）から来ていて、もとは炎の形に彫られた後期ゴシックの窓を指しました。その炎を覚えておいてください。部屋の反対側からでも見えるように作られたもの、という意味です。絵はソファほどもあるオレンジの羽根コート。「悪趣味」ではなく「見られるため」の言葉です。
