convivial

Convivial describes a warmth that only exists between people. The Latin inside it is convivium, a feast — from con, together, and vivere, to live. So the word literally means living together, and it has never quite left the table it started at. The drawing gives the man four arms and four mugs, because his own drink is not the point; the point is that everybody has one. A convivial evening is not the same as a fun one. A film can be fun on your own. Convivial needs a second person, and a third, and it describes the air between them rather than anything any one of them did.
