alacrity

Alacrity is speed that shows you wanted to. Two people can both say yes to the same request; the one who answers with alacrity is already on their feet reaching for a coat while the other is still saying of course. The word carries no hurry and no panic in it — someone rushing because they are late does not have alacrity, they have a deadline. What it carries is willingness that arrives as movement. That is why it is nearly always used about accepting something: an invitation, a task, an offer. If the yes came slowly and the doing came fast, that was efficiency. Alacrity is when both are fast.

Alacrity es la rapidez que demuestra ganas. Dos personas dicen que sí a lo mismo: la que responde con alacrity ya está de pie buscando el abrigo mientras la otra sigue diciendo «claro». No es prisa ni nervio — quien corre porque llega tarde no tiene alacrity, tiene un plazo.

Alacrity é a rapidez que mostra vontade. Duas pessoas dizem sim ao mesmo pedido: a que responde com alacrity já está de pé pegando o casaco, enquanto a outra ainda diz "claro". Não é pressa nem nervoso — quem corre porque está atrasado não tem alacrity, tem prazo.

Alacrity, c'est la rapidité qui montre l'envie. Deux personnes disent oui à la même demande : celle qui répond avec alacrity est déjà debout, manteau à la main, quand l'autre dit encore « bien sûr ». Ce n'est ni la hâte ni la panique — courir parce qu'on est en retard, ce n'est pas de l'alacrity.

Alacrity adalah kecepatan yang memperlihatkan kemauan. Dua orang sama-sama bilang ya; yang menjawab dengan alacrity sudah berdiri mengambil jaketnya, sementara yang lain masih berkata "tentu saja". Ini bukan buru-buru atau panik — orang yang lari karena terlambat bukan punya alacrity, tapi punya tenggat.

alacrity とは、「やりたい」という気持ちがそのまま速さになったものです。同じ頼みごとに二人が「いいですよ」と答えても、alacrity のある人はもう立ち上がって上着を取っています。あわてているのとは違います。遅刻しそうで走っている人にあるのは alacrity ではなく、締め切りです。
