Solitude is being alone when you chose it. English has two words for one situation, and the difference is consent: loneliness is the state you did not ask for, solitude is the one you did. The word carries no complaint — writers go looking for solitude; nobody goes looking for loneliness. In the animation, a man sits inside a glass dome with a book, smiling. He lowered the dome himself.
