Anthropomorphism is treating something that is not human — an animal, an object, a machine — as though it had human thoughts and feelings. You do it daily without noticing: the car that doesn't want to start, the dog that looks guilty, every talking animal in a cartoon. Mostly harmless. It matters with AI because chatbots are built out of human writing and therefore sound human: one says I'm happy to help, I'm sorry, I think. It is very hard not to hear a person behind sentences like those, and people end up trusting, arguing with, or confiding in a system that has nobody inside it. The adjective is anthropomorphic; the verb is anthropomorphise.
