wonky

Not straight, not level, not quite to be trusted.

what it means

Wonky means not straight, and it is a friendly word for it — British, informal, more amused than annoyed. It probably descends from Old English wancol, unsteady, which is a long life for a small word. The drawing puts it where you meet it most: a café table whose legs bend in different directions, and a man watching his cup with real concern. That is the useful part. Wonky is not broken. The table is standing, the cup has not gone over yet — but nothing about it is trustworthy, and you find yourself keeping one hand near. It works for a shelf, a smile, a wheel, or a plan.

Vem talvez do inglês antigo wancol, instável.

古英語の wancol(ぐらつく)が語源とされます。
