stupor

A stupor is being awake and barely running. The eyes are open, someone is talking to you, and everything arrives a second late — the question, then the pause, then the answer you had to go and fetch. It is not sleep and it is not thinking. A long night can do it, so can illness, heat or shock. And the word carries no cleverness with it: a person in a stupor is not lost in thought, they are sitting there while the room goes on around them, waiting for the fog to lift.

Un stupor es estar despierto pero casi sin funcionar. Los ojos abiertos, alguien hablándote, y todo llegando un segundo tarde: la pregunta, la pausa, y luego la respuesta que hubo que ir a buscar. No es sueño ni es pensar. Lo provocan el cansancio, la fiebre, el calor o un susto.

Stupor adalah keadaan terjaga tapi hampir tidak jalan. Mata terbuka, ada orang mengajak bicara, dan semuanya datang terlambat satu detik: pertanyaannya, jedanya, lalu jawaban yang harus dicari dulu. Ini bukan tidur, bukan juga berpikir. Kelelahan, demam, panas, atau kaget bisa membuatnya.

Stupor, uyanık olup da neredeyse çalışmama hâlidir. Gözler açık, biri sizinle konuşuyor ve her şey bir saniye geç geliyor: soru, sessizlik, sonra gidip getirmek zorunda kaldığınız cevap. Ne uykudur ne düşünmek. Yorgunluk, ateş, sıcak ya da bir şok yeter.

stupor は、起きてはいるのに、ほとんど動いていない状態です。目は開いていて、誰かが話しかけている。それでもすべてが一秒遅れて届く——質問、間、それから取りに行ってようやく出てくる返事。眠りでもなく、考えごとでもありません。疲れ、熱、暑さ、驚きで、こうなります。
