jolt

A jolt is one sudden knock that moves you before you have agreed to move. The drawing puts it in a chair: a man sits with his coffee, something hits, and the drink and his hair go straight up while his face catches up a second later. Keep both halves of it. A jolt is sharp and it is short — never a long slow shaking — and it always comes from outside. That is why the word carries over so cleanly. The bus jolts and you grab the rail. Bad news jolts you. And a jolt can be a favour: the thing that jolts you awake is often the only reason you got up in time.

Un jolt es un golpe repentino que te mueve antes de que decidas moverte. En el dibujo: un hombre con su café, algo golpea, y la bebida y el pelo salen hacia arriba y la cara tarda un segundo. Es corto y viene de fuera, nunca un temblor largo. El autobús da un tirón; una mala noticia te sacude; y a veces ese golpe es lo único que te despierta a tiempo.

É curto e vem de fora, nunca um tremor longo. O ônibus dá um solavanco; uma má notícia te sacode; e às vezes esse susto é o que te acorda a tempo.

Un jolt, c'est une secousse soudaine qui vous déplace avant que vous ayez décidé de bouger. Sur le dessin : un homme, son café, quelque chose frappe, et la boisson comme les cheveux partent vers le haut pendant que le visage met une seconde. C'est bref et ça vient du dehors. Le bus tressaute, une mauvaise nouvelle vous secoue, et parfois c'est ce qui vous réveille à temps.

Jolt adalah guncangan mendadak yang menggerakkanmu sebelum kamu memutuskan bergerak. Jolt は、自分が動くと決める前に体を動かしてしまう、突然の一撃です。絵では椅子の上。男がコーヒーを持っていると何かがぶつかり、飲み物も髪もまっすぐ上へ跳ね、顔だけが一拍遅れて追いつきます。短く、そして必ず外から来ます。だからどこにでも使えます。バスが揺れて手すりをつかむ。悪い知らせが人を揺さぶる。その一撃だけが、間に合う時間に目を覚まさせてくれることもあります。
