considerate

Considerate is not the same as nice. Nice lives on the surface — the warm voice, the kind word. Considerate is a piece of thinking somebody did before you arrived: they lowered their voice because you were on a call, they left the last seat because you were carrying something, they sent a message instead of ringing because it was late where you are. In every case the same thing happened. They ran the next thirty seconds forward in their head and noticed you standing in them. That is why a considerate person can be quiet, and blunt, and not especially warm, and still be the easiest person in the building to live with.

Considerate no es lo mismo que simpático. Lo simpático está en la superficie; lo considerate es un pensamiento que alguien hizo antes de que llegaras: bajó la voz porque estabas al teléfono, escribió en vez de llamar porque era tarde. Adelantó treinta segundos y te vio dentro.

Considerate n'est pas la même chose que gentil. La gentillesse est en surface ; considerate, c'est une pensée que quelqu'un a eue avant votre arrivée : il a baissé la voix parce que vous téléphoniez, écrit au lieu d'appeler parce qu'il était tard. Il a avancé de trente secondes et vous y a vu.

Considerate tidak sama dengan ramah. Ramah ada di permukaan; considerate adalah pikiran yang sudah dijalankan orang sebelum Anda datang: ia mengecilkan suaranya karena Anda sedang menelepon, mengirim pesan alih-alih menelepon karena hari sudah malam. Ia memajukan tiga puluh detik, dan melihat Anda di sana.

considerate は「感じがいい」とは違います。感じのよさは表面のこと。considerate なのは、あなたが来る前に誰かが済ませておいた考えのほうです。電話中だから声を落とす、遅い時間だから電話せずに文字で送る。次の三十秒を頭の中で先に流し、そこにあなたがいることに気づいているのです。
