adjunct

An adjunct is a thing joined on to something that was already complete. It is built from the word for joined, and the whole meaning sits in what it is joined to: the main thing works without it. A workbook is an adjunct to a course. A side room is an adjunct to a hall. It is used of people, too — an adjunct lecturer is attached to a department without being part of its permanent staff, which tells you precisely how much weight the word carries. Notice that nothing in adjunct says unimportant. It says added, and detachable.

Adjunct adalah sesuatu yang dilekatkan pada hal yang sudah lengkap. Kata ini berasal dari "disambung", dan maknanya terletak pada apa yang ia lekati: yang utama tetap jalan tanpanya.
