sidekick

A sidekick is the smaller one, and the word is a pickpocket's: the side-kick was the trouser pocket at your side, the hardest one to rob, so the thing that stays closest to you. It came to mean the partner who is always at your shoulder. The drawing sets the balance out plainly. The hero stands with his cape and his chest out; the sidekick, half his size, holds up the whole toolbox and hands him what he needs. He does not get the pose. Note that the word is not an insult — a sidekick is loyal, useful, and in on it. What a sidekick is not is the one the story is about.

El dibujo reparte los papeles: el héroe saca pecho con su capa; el sidekick, la mitad de alto, sostiene toda la caja de herramientas. No es un insulto — pero la historia no es sobre él.

No desenho, o herói estufa o peito com a capa; o sidekick, metade do tamanho, segura sozinho a caixa de ferramentas. Não é insulto: a história é que não é sobre ele.

Le sidekick, c'est le plus petit, et le mot vient de l'argot des pickpockets : le side-kick était la poche latérale du pantalon. Puis : le compagnon qui ne quitte jamais votre épaule. Dans le dessin, le héros bombe le torse sous sa cape ; le sidekick, moitié moins grand, porte à lui seul la caisse à outils. Ce n'est pas une insulte : l'histoire n'est simplement pas la sienne.

Sidekick adalah yang lebih kecil, dan katanya berasal dari bahasa slang pencopet: side-kick dulu berarti saku samping celana, yang selalu menempel padamu. Lalu artinya bergeser: pendamping yang tak pernah jauh dari bahumu. Di gambar, sang pahlawan membusungkan dada; si sidekick, setengah tingginya, memanggul seluruh kotak perkakas. Sidekick は「小さいほう」。語源はスリの隠語で、side-kick はズボンの横ポケット——最も盗みにくい、つまり常に身体に密着している場所でした。そこから「肩のそばを離れない相棒」の意味に。絵では、マントの英雄が胸を張る一方、半分の背丈の相棒が道具箱をまるごと支えています。侮辱ではありません。ただ、物語の主役ではないのです。
