what it means
To prioritize is to decide what goes first — and the hard half of the word is what that does to everything else. It is built on prior, meaning before, so a priority is simply the thing that goes before other things. Which is why a list of ten priorities is not a list of priorities. It is a list. Real prioritising shows up as loss: sleep moves to the front, the evening's other plan drops back, and you are the one choosing that. The clue is in how people use it when they are being honest. We need to prioritise this is easy. What are we dropping is the same sentence, said properly.
語のもとは prior(=前)。
