what it means
Malleable comes from the Latin for hammer, and that is exactly the test: can you beat it into a new shape without it cracking? Gold is the champion — one gram can be hammered out until it covers a table. Glass fails, because it breaks instead of moving. Keep the hammer in mind and the second use follows on its own. A malleable person is shaped by whoever is working on them: young, unformed, easily talked round. It is not quite an insult and nowhere near a compliment, because it says somebody else's pressure decides your shape. A malleable plan is the good version of the same thing: it takes a new form when the facts change.
