Glee is joy that has stopped being polite. Not calm, not quiet pleasure — the kind that gets into the legs, so the drawing has a grown man in a good suit leaping off the ground with an ice cream. It is loud and a bit childish, and both are the point: an adult who admits to glee is admitting they behaved like an eight-year-old for a second. A thousand years ago the word meant music, which is why a school choir is still a glee club. And it has a darker half. You can feel glee at bad news about someone you dislike, and that is exactly the word people reach for when they want to say so.

Glee es la alegría que ya no guarda las formas. Se te mete en las piernas: en el dibujo, un señor de traje salta con un helado. Es ruidosa y algo infantil, a propósito. Hace mil años significaba música — por eso un coro escolar sigue siendo un glee club. Y tiene un lado feo: también se siente con la mala noticia de alguien que no te cae bien.
