extend

what it means

Extend means to make something reach further than it did before. The picture is a line: you put the pen back on the end of it and keep going. Nothing new is started — the same thing simply goes on for longer. That is why extend works for so many things. You extend a table by adding a piece in the middle, so it reaches more people. You extend a deadline, so the same job now runs into next week. You extend your arm, and your hand ends up somewhere it could not reach a moment ago. If you are adding length, time or reach to something that already exists, you are extending it.

Nada novo começa; a mesma coisa apenas segue.
