venue

A venue is the place an event happens — and the word carries a small fact worth having: it comes from the old word for coming. A venue is the place people come to. That is why it is not simply a building. An empty hall on a Tuesday is a hall; it becomes a venue when there is something on and people are travelling to it. The word belongs to whatever is arranged and attended: a wedding venue, a concert venue, and in law the venue of a trial, which is the place chosen for it to be heard. Change the venue and you have changed where everybody goes.

Un venue es el lugar donde ocurre un acto — y la palabra guarda un dato útil: viene del verbo antiguo «venir». Es el sitio al que la gente viene. Por eso no es sólo un edificio: una sala vacía un martes es una sala; se vuelve venue cuando hay algo y alguien viaja hasta allí.

Un venue est le lieu où se tient un événement — et le mot garde un détail utile : il vient du verbe « venir ». C'est l'endroit où l'on vient. Ce n'est donc pas qu'un bâtiment : une salle vide un mardi est une salle ; elle devient venue quand il s'y passe quelque chose et qu'on s'y rend.
