venue

venue

what it means

A venue is the place an event happens — and the word carries a small fact worth having: it comes from the old word for coming. A venue is the place people come to. That is why it is not simply a building. An empty hall on a Tuesday is a hall; it becomes a venue when there is something on and people are travelling to it. The word belongs to whatever is arranged and attended: a wedding venue, a concert venue, and in law the venue of a trial, which is the place chosen for it to be heard. Change the venue and you have changed where everybody goes.

Um venue é o lugar onde um evento acontece — e a palavra guarda um detalhe útil: vem do verbo antigo "vir". É o lugar aonde as pessoas vêm.
