Lines That Never Meet

Definition of parallel lines.

Parallel Lines Around Us

Have you ever noticed the keys on a piano, the slats on a park bench, or the shading in a pencil sketch? These are real-world examples of parallel lines. We use them constantly in art, architecture, and engineering to create structure and depth.

Matching arrow marks on lines mathematically guarantee that they are parallel.

Note to the Teacher (Adapted)

Highlight the importance of being on the same plane.

"It is important that the lines lie on the same plane. A line drawn on a table and a line drawn on the board may never meet, but that does not make them parallel."

Identifying Parallel Lines

Identify which lines are parallel on a dot grid.
