The Mystery of the Indus

Introduction to the undiscovered script and ancient cities.

Imagine wandering into a bustling city over 4,500 years ago. Instead of mud huts, you find straight, wide streets laid out in a precise grid, multi-story houses made of uniform baked bricks, and underground sewers that rivaled those built thousands of years later.

This isn't science fiction—this is the Indus-Sarasvatī civilisation, also known as the First Urbanisation of India.

Feynman on Harappan Peace

Feynman explains the strange lack of weapons in this civilisation.

Learners can ask follow-up questions and keep the thread going.

Here's something truly wild about the Harappans. When you think of ancient, powerful empires—like Egypt or Mesopotamia—you probably picture massive armies, conquered enemies, and kings boasting about warfare. But despite excavating dozens of huge Harappan cities, we've found practically zero weapons of war!

They built an entire civilization around mutual "accommodation" instead of violent "exploitation." Why do you think a rich, highly organized society spanning over 4,500 years ago would be able to survive for centuries without a standing army?
