Sacred names of Mount Everest.
💡 Did you know?
Mount Everest, the highest peak in the world at 8,848m, is considered sacred and worshipped by many traditional communities. Tibetans call it 'Chomolungma', which means 'Mother Goddess of the World', and Nepalis call it 'Sagarmatha', meaning 'Goddess of the Sky'!

Test recall of mountain definitions.
Mountains are fascinating physical features that take shape over millions of years. Mountains with tall, sharp peaks are geologically . They are still actively growing in height. Over millions of years, erosion wears mountains down, so those with rounded tops like the Aravalli are considered . Highlands that have a lower height, less steep slopes, and rounded tops are called . Rather than standing alone, mountains are usually grouped together stretching for thousands of kilometers to form mountain . These massive structures have a significant connection with the environment and local climate.
Montane forests, fauna, and human adaptation.
Mountain slopes are covered with montane forests. Here you will find conifer trees like pine, fir, spruce, and deodar, which grow tall and cone-shaped with thin, pointed leaves. At even higher altitudes, the trees disappear, giving way to grasses, mosses, and lichen.
Visual of step farming on steep slopes.
To grow crops on steep, rugged terrain, mountain communities cut flat steps directly into the slope.
Hazards of mountain living.
Living in the mountains comes with extreme natural challenges. The steep slopes and unpredictable weather make the region vulnerable to sudden, destructive events.
