The interesting arguments are about the gap near the end.
Name the specific parts of an education or employment system, replacing the undifferentiated studies and job.

Education essays fail because they argue about education rather than about one part of it.
Education is a system with parts. So is employment. A Band 7 answer names which part it is talking about; a Band 6 answer treats the whole thing as one undifferentiated block called school or studies.
INPUT what goes in curriculum · tuition · pedagogy
PROCESS how it is delivered vocational · apprenticeship
OUTCOME what comes out literacy · qualification · employability
Most weak answers argue about the outcome while proposing a change to the input, without noticing the gap between them. Naming the stage forces the connection to be made.

Six gaps across a Task 2 paragraph, each naming a specific part of the system.
Should secondary schools focus more on practical skills than academic subjects?
The case rests on a gap that is now well documented.
Over two decades, the number of held by school leavers has risen steadily, while employers report unchanged shortages in skilled trades — which suggests certificates and have come apart.
One response is to change what is taught. A that includes practical subjects alongside academic ones would reach students who currently leave with nothing.
A second is to change how learning is delivered. routes allow students to train for a specific trade, and paid let them do so while earning.
Neither reform helps if the basics are missing: a student who leaves without functional cannot access either route.
Finally, cost shapes access. Where are high, the students most likely to benefit are the least able to enrol — and the continues to age without replacement.
Propose a change and connect it to the outcome it is supposed to fix.
Task 2 prompt: Some people believe schools should teach practical life skills rather than traditional academic subjects.
The second sentence is the one most candidates skip — and it is where the argument actually lives.
One change, one outcome, connected.
Naming both forces the connection.
