Body 1 (100 words): Libraries give people without internet access a way to apply for work. A jobseeker without a connection at home cannot submit an online application, renew a benefit claim, or attend a video interview — all of which are now the only routes available. The branch in my district runs a booking system for its four terminals and it is full every weekday morning.
Body 2 (115 words): Libraries are also extremely important for children. They are clearly a vital resource for young people and obviously help enormously with reading. Every child benefits from access to books. This is undoubtedly one of the most valuable services a council can provide, and the importance of libraries for children cannot be overstated.
Body 3 (85 words): Closing a library removes a service that nothing else replaces. A café charges for a seat, a school is closed to non-pupils, and a shopping centre moves people on after an hour — so a person with nowhere warm to sit has no alternative. Three branches in my city closed in 2019 and none has reopened.
