In my role as a Journalist at The Beijing Times, I frequently mentor new hires, helping them transition into their journalistic roles. One of the new hires I worked with was struggling with structuring compelling stories that would catch our readers' attention. As part of the mentoring process, I conducted a few workshop sessions involving exploratory writing tasks, helping him to understand different narrative structures and storytelling techniques.
After a couple of months, he significantly improved, his stories started appearing on the front page and even got shared on social media platforms more frequently. This improved both our content and the overall visibility of our publication. In the end, not only did I help him develop his journalistic skills, but also it was an enlightening journey for me, reinforcing the importance of narratives in journalistic writing.
