Introduction to differential heating based on Activity 7.4.
A walk on the beach can feel surprisingly different depending on the time of day. Palden noticed this during a visit to a beach in Kerala: during the day, the sand was much hotter than the ocean water, but at night, the sand felt cooler than the water. Why does this happen?
Explanation of how Sea Breeze and Land Breeze form via convection.
During the day, the land gets heated faster than the water. This causes the air directly above the land to become warm and rise. To fill the empty space left behind, cooler air from the sea rushes in towards the land. This refreshing daytime movement of cooler air from the sea to the land is called a sea breeze.
Match time of day and heating status to the correct breeze.
