Becoming a Candidate

Ever thought about running for office yourself? In a true democracy, almost anyone who can vote can also step up to lead.

While the legal age to vote is 18, the minimum age to become a candidate is 25 years.

Note: The system places almost no restrictions on contesting. Disqualifications generally only apply in extreme situations, such as for individuals with specific severe criminal convictions.

The climax of the electoral process happens on election day. This is when eligible voters head to a local polling booth—usually set up in a nearby school or government office.

Inside the booth, election officials verify your identity, place a distinct ink mark on your finger to prevent double voting, and allow you to cast your vote. To ensure fairness, agents of each candidate are allowed to sit inside the booth.
