Explanation of selective reporting vs data dumping.
One of the most common reasons IELTS students are stuck at a Band 5.5 or 6.0 in Writing Task 1 is the Data Dump.
A data dump happens when you try to write a sentence for every single number, year, or category on the chart. Not only does this waste your 20 minutes, but it also turns your report into a robotic, confusing list that fails to address the prompt.

Summarising means filtering out the noise to reveal only the most important trends, highs, and lows.
Side-by-side comparison of a weak number-listing paragraph and a strong grouped paragraph.
In 2010, sales were 10. In 2011, they were 12. In 2012, sales went up to 15. Then in 2013 they were 14. In 2014 they went up to 18, and in 2015 they reached 20. Finally, in 2016 they ended at 22.
Overall, sales experienced a consistent upward trend over the six-year period. They more than doubled from their starting point of 10 in 2010 to peak at 22 by 2016, despite a minor dip in 2013.
