Five things, one per sprint. Tick only what you could do in an exam, not what you recognise.
Thirty items, five clusters. If an item hesitates, that is the one to review.
Sort each item into the correct category
Twelve items. In five of them the correct answer is the ordinary word — the chapter is not passed by using everything it taught you.
Twelve items across the five clusters. Read only what each stem establishes.
In five of the twelve the correct answer is the plain word. That is the check: a candidate who has learned this chapter as a word list will reach every time, and will score below where they started.
The paragraph has established only that a committee kept the same position at four consecutive meetings, and that no counter-evidence was presented at any of them. Which word?
A single passage drawing on all five sprints. Four of the ten gaps take the plain word.
Between 2014 and 2021 unregistered care providers across the region, and by 2021 they outnumbered registered ones in four districts; two coroners' reports and the absence of any complaints route had already established that there were more of them than the system could account for.
The regulator had been warned in 2015 and again in 2017, and carried out its first inspection in 2019. Nothing published tells us that faster action was available, so on this evidence the response was , and no more than that.
Where the regulator did act, it applied one eligibility rule to every provider — including a rural service whose circumstances the rule had never been drafted for, and whose appeal set out the mismatch in detail before being refused on the ground that no exceptions existed. That application was .
The reform that followed was announced as a of the inspection service. The phrase did not mention the two hundred inspector posts it removed; those posts were , and the plainer word is the accurate one.
Critics have called the department's chair , but the record shows only that she held her position across four meetings at which no counter-evidence was put, which makes her and nothing more.
When the provider trade body threatened legal action, the department withdrew the guidance within nine days, having twice refused to reconsider it on grounds it did not restate. Its own former adviser said publicly that it had .
The department's defence — that the changes an overburdened system — is the language of the people who designed them. For the four districts that lost their only inspector, the eighteen months that followed were closer to .
A full Task 2 body paragraph with a hard ceiling of four chapter items. The ceiling is the assessment.
Prompt
Some countries have introduced congestion charges requiring drivers to pay to enter city centres. Discuss the arguments for and against, and give your own view.
Write ONE body paragraph, 180–260 words, arguing either side.
The ceiling is four. At most four words or phrases from this chapter may appear in the paragraph — from any of the five clusters. Fewer is not a weaker answer. Zero is a defensible answer if the evidence you construct is ordinary.
Before you submit, do one thing: go through your paragraph and count them. If you are at five, cut the one that is doing the least work. That single decision is what this chapter has been training.
You may invent plausible detail about a city, its scheme and its results. Do not present invented figures as published research.
180–260 words. At most four chapter items.
Comma-separated. Count them yourself first.
Name it and give the reason. "None" is an acceptable answer only if it is true.
Name the ones you are leaving behind. Deciding not to use a word you have learned is a result, not a retreat.
