The whole is always the dividend, whichever order the sentence names things in.
In every division word problem, there is a whole amount and there are equal parts. The whole amount is always the dividend (the number that gets divided).
Given a product and one of the two numbers, divide to find the other.
Sometimes a problem asks you to work backward: The product of two numbers is 7,695. If one of them is 57, find the other.
Multiplying and dividing undo each other. If two numbers multiply to give a product, dividing that product by one of the numbers will give you the other.
