I worked as an International correspondent for 'Global Spotlight' where I witnessed and reported several crises and conflicts around the world. One significant assignment was covering the civil unrest in Myanmar. It was a challenging situation given the severity of the conflict and the remote location, all of which necessitated an agile mindset and risk management strategies.
The first step in the process was conducting comprehensive research about the region and the conflict, understanding the historical, political, and cultural context. Once on the ground, I focused on maintaining relationships with local contacts and NGOs to ensure updated and reliable information. A critical aspect of reporting was following the BBC Editorial Guidelines to ensure responsible journalism by respecting issues of privacy, avoiding harm, and ensuring fairness.
Creating and broadcasting reports on the crisis led to increased global awareness about the situation. For my efforts, I was recognized with the 'Reporting Excellence Award' in 2020 by my organization, which further inspired my passion for responsible journalism.
