Our teams often use software like Granta Design’s CES EduPack for material selection, taking into consideration factors like cost, manufacturing process, strength, and durability.
One project that stands out is when we were designing structural components for an offshore oil rig. We meticulously chose Stainless Steel 316L due to its excellent corrosion resistance, good weldability, and relatively high ductility. We considered the rig's exposure to harsh marine climate and high-stress conditions, making this material a fitting choice.
