As an Acoustical Engineer at NoiseBAN Ltd, I often need to provide solutions balancing various design constraints. One such case involved the design of a commercial cinema auditorium; the project required us to balance acoustical excellence with aesthetics and budget limitations.
To tackle this, we used Simulation software like CATT-Acoustic. Our initial assessment determined that considerable low-frequency noise was penetrating the walls of the cinema. We chose to add mass-loaded vinyl (MLV) barriers in the wall construction to improve sound insulation. An aesthetically pleasing design was maintained with the use of decorative acoustical panels that also served to diffusely reflect sound and absorb unwanted echoes.
The result was a high-quality sound insulation and absorbing interior design, fulfilling the project's budget and aesthetics constraints. Our client reported that patron satisfaction had notably improved due to the enhanced acoustical experience after our intervention.
