wayward

Wayward began as away-ward — turned away, off the road. Something set out in one direction and is not staying in it. It is not the same as rebellious: a rebel picks a different road on purpose; a wayward thing simply will not hold its line — a shot, a strand of hair, a child. In the animation, a man is mid-walk and one of his legs kicks off on its own, and he is not choosing it.
