sinister

Sinister is the feeling that something bad is coming, before anything bad has happened — a sinister silence, a sinister smile. The Latin sinister only meant 'left', the unlucky side to see a bird fly on. Once the harm has actually landed, you want a different word. In the animation, a man walks along smiling while his shadow stands up behind him, grows claws, and opens two orange eyes.
