polymath

A polymath, from Greek polymathes, having learned much, is someone who has mastered many fields. Not someone with a lot of hobbies: each one is real work, done properly. That is why the word stays rare. It is easy to be interested in five things and very hard to be good at them, and only the second earns it. In the animation, a man catches hat after hat, chef, explorer, violinist, and ends up wearing them all.
