poltergeist

German says what it does: poltern, to make a racket, and Geist, ghost. A poltergeist is defined by what it moves: chairs shift, plates rattle, cupboards fly open, and nothing is there. Unlike a quiet haunting, it makes noise to be noticed. In the animation, a man sips his mug while the furniture levitates and rearranges itself silently behind his back.
