petrichor

Petrichor is the earthy smell that rises when rain falls on dry ground after a long dry spell. Two Australian scientists coined it in 1964 from Greek petra, stone, and ichor, the fluid said to run in the veins of the gods: the blood of the earth itself. It is the smell of relief, of dust finally settling. In the animation, a man raises a flask of golden rain and savours the scent like a vintage wine.
