melancholy

Melancholy is sadness without a cause you can name. The old doctors named one anyway: the word is Greek for black bile, one of the four fluids they believed set a person's temperament. The medicine was wrong; the observation was not. You can shelter from weather that comes from outside. In the animation, a man holds an umbrella while the rain falls underneath it.
