Maleficent describes someone who does harm on purpose, takes care over it, and is pleased with the result. It comes from Latin: male, badly, and facere, to do — the opposite of beneficent, doing good. It is an old, literary word, at home in fairy tales and dark fantasy. It is not for someone who hurts others by accident or in a temper. In the animation, a man builds a storm cloud by hand, hangs it over one small flower, and tips his hat.
