Next to; sharing a border or boundary
Look at your keyboard: Q is adjacent to W. They sit right next to each other, sharing a border. Adjacent means next to, neighboring, side by side.
The word comes from Latin adjacere—to lie near. Two things are adjacent when they touch or share a boundary with nothing between them.
Visual examples of things that are next to each other

On your keyboard, Q and W are adjacent—they sit directly next to each other.

Adjacent rooms share a wall—you can walk directly from one to the other.
