As an Associate Producer at KBS News in South Korea, I have been involved in several instances of live event coverage like political rallies, sports events, and cultural programs. Our typical workflow involves multi-tiered preparation. First, we have a team meeting to get an overview of the event’s structure and to identify the essential aspects we might want to focus on. Followed by this, we engage in thorough research about the event's context, the key figures involved, and possible questions to ask.
A great example is our coverage of the annual Korean Film Awards. We utilized specialized equipment, like Boom microphones for interviews and multi-camera setups for wider coverage. I was responsible for coordinating with the camera and sound technicians, making sure we captured all critical moments. This was especially challenging due to unexpected program changes and the need to respond quickly. Yet, our pre-event preparation and effective communication made the coverage smooth and highly appreciated by viewers.
