Currently, as a Medical Officer with "Doctors Without Borders", I regularly handle emergency situations in the field. I recall an incident last year when I was deployed in a remote area in Nepal, and we experienced a significant earthquake.
Immediately following the earthquake, we began receiving numerous injured individuals at our makeshift clinic. One of them was a child suffering from severe trauma and a possible spine injury. I utilized my disaster response training, immobilized the child using the resources we had, and managed to maintain the child's vitals while arranging for medical evacuation.
There's a great sense of fulfilment in knowing that my skills made a difference. That day reaffirms to me why I entered the medical profession – to help people in dire situations and provide assistance when it matters the most. It highlights the immense value of emergency medical expertise, especially in unpredictable field environments.
